Erosion Repair at Turnberry Isle Golf Course, Aventura

The Turnberry Isle Country Club in Aventura, Florida, is a beautiful resort with many amenities, including a stunning 36-hole golf course. Like many top-of-the-line golf courses, this sprawling green introduces the difficulty of trying not to send your golf ball flying into a body of water- a fun and, sometimes, extremely difficult task. Just as it may be hard for some golfers to avoid sinking one into the lake, it is also hard to prevent erosion. Hence, Sea Me Dive was called to help.

The embankment of the lake, which measured approximately 230 feet, was experiencing erosion and loss of sediment. In order to remedy this issue, we started by installing wire mesh on top of the rip rap embankment. This non-corrosive mesh was added to support the embankment and give a solid foundation on which to put the mortar coating. The mesh, which had been installed from the water line to the top of the rip rap, was mortared with crack-resistant concrete. This was done on the outer face and top side of the area.

The process of adding the mesh and concrete increased the integral strength of the embankment riprap wall, creating a better seal and increasing its lifespan. Due to the embankment now being covered in concrete, the water can no longer erode away the land.

Project description

After this, we ensured the stability of the wall by adding 6 wooden batter piles, which were secured with cross supports. These help create a redundant support system for the wall. We then added Jet Filters to reduce the hydrostatic pressure on the wall and prevent hairline cracks from forming.

Through this project, we were able to make this beautiful property even nicer!
